Editing
We have decided to use the Sony Vegas software for editing. It is version 12 of sony vegas. So far we have completed approximately 2 minutes of the video in the editing stage. I have found editing to be very challenging and time consuming. However the difficulties encountered have made it all the more better once getting it right. The hardest part has been getting the audio to sync to the video. For this process i've had to go frame by frame to find the right moment. This has been rewarding once finding that moment. Other hard parts about editing have been splitting clips in order to separate parts correctly and also trimming clips to the correct parts.

Filming and Editing Inspirations
When deciding ways in which to film and edit our music video we took heavy influence from the rock genre as this is our genre for our music video. We took inspiration from bands such as Disturbed, Avenged Sevenfold and Linkin Park themselves. We liked these due to their general fast paced nature. This being from the many jump cuts used.
This is 'Stupify' by Disturbed. Disturbed in general are a dark themed band but this video has a very dark nature. It is set in what looks like a rough apartment block. The video features lots of jump cuts making it very fast paced to fit with the song. This is the style we went for in our music video.
We would also like to include in our video 'head banging' as it is almost a rock video staple and also jumping to continue the rock nature of the video. In this video head banging is featured throughout by the guitarists. They also jump at 1:07 in the video. These features would be great to include in our music video to create the classic rock 'feel'. Also it will seem professional.
Disturbed also used edits in some transitions. I think they are fast screen wipes. They are started by quickly tilting the camera in a certain direction then the edit follows. We would like to feature similar transitional edits in our video too.
This is Carry On by Avenged Sevenfold
Although this is an animated video i would still like to take some of the shots from it. These shots would just be M Shadows mannerisms whilst on stage. The key ones would be the way he looks to the sky on key lyrics.

Merchandise Fashion Board
After deciding our merchandise post was a little bland we decided to make a fashion board of our merchandise so our audience isn't bored whilst checking out the merchandise.

Photo Inspirations
We took this image in the music room of our school, where we filmed a few clips for the video. We did this because this is where all of the musical equipment is. This made for easy access and set up for the video. We felt it made a good backdrop due to all of the guitar cases and amps. Thus fitting with the rock genre of the video.
This photo was taken in the same place for the same reasons. I like this photo due to the angle it was taken. This makes us seem important and bigger than we are. This made a good shot for the video. This will be the image used for our poster for those reasons. I also think it would be good for a poster as it is different. Most posters don't feature the band playing the images. They usually have them looking at the camera. This way it is more natural and original.
This image was taken in a small side street in the rain behind chinatown. We filmed here because it has a gritty feel. We also wanted to film in the rain again to make it feel darker due to the paranoia theme of our video.

Photos from the shoot
Here are some photos from the various sessions of filming we've had over the last two months, from different days and both for two different elements of the video (performance and narrative). We are nearing the editing stage now, were we'll decide if the footage we filmed from the various days below will make it into the final cut or not among many others.

G-Mail
We thought that as a band we should have an e-mail address so we made a g-mail account.
Our g-mail is:

Progress Update
As a group we are making excellent progress in our project. After looking at the results to our questionnaire we took our plans for the music video and started the filming process. All that remains to be done is some performance section shots and the video will be ready to edit. All of the research into audiences and audience theory is done and all we need to do is produce a website for the band. We have a twitter page and our lyric storyboard has been put into use for our filming. We will also need to do a photoshoot during some of the filming.
Applying Audience Theory
The main concept of our music video surrounds a paranoid and distraught man and how his paranoia and aggressive personality troubles him in various social situations, such as a run in with a stranger. The video however has a positive ending with the future finally starting to look up for the protagonist.
We can apply many audience theories to this media text and the potential influence it can have on the audience, which we hope to positively apply correctly to the video leave an effect on our target audience.
Firstly, the hypodermic needle is based on the idea that us as the audience are passive, and we are 'injected' by the media with content. The meanings and signals behind each text are delivered to us all as equals, but the level of effect they have on us differs as we all respond differently. We (the audience) have no choice in how we interpret text and the media is always correct, which can lead to disbelief when faced with opposing information. It is usually considered negative effects and the bad influence a text can have, which can be applied to our video by people thinking it's fine to assault strangers in the street and emulate this behaviour.
The effects debate says how it is mostly negative effects that media texts have on people, so regulations have been brought in to prevent this such as classification. Our video, while dark natured, isn't violent or graphic enough to warrant a mature warning on the site it will be uploaded on (YouTube) and stays appropriate for all ages as part of our coursework.
Blumler and Katz's theory suggests you use the media text for your own gratification and take it the way you want, which we will apply to our audience by if they are going through similar situations to those portrayed in their life can still improve.
This is similar to the reception theory as the audience interprets the media text for themselves and their interpretations are based on their own experiences, whether it is the creator's original intention/message or not.
The theory that can be applied to our video the most is Blumler and Katz's, with no matter how bad things get they'll turn around.

Merchandise
When designing our band merchandise we decided to create a diverse range of colours to choose from. We designed t-shirts, hoodies and shoes. Most bands don't have band shoes so we thought we would be different. We also made multiple designs for our t-shirts and hoodies to give our audience a better choice.
This is a black hoodie designed simply with just the logo and a spiral.
We made a hoodie with just the band logo for people who want just the band logo on show and nothing to distract from this. This hoodie comes in blue and black editions.
This hoodie is red to match the shoes if you get them as well. This is my preferred hoodie design due to the guitar so you know that it is associated with music.
For the shoes we went with the well known brand of Nike to make people confident in the quality of our product. These shoes can be worn in all casual situations.
Here you can clearly see 'F LINE' in recognition of the band. These shoes are very stylish and would make a great addition to anyones collection.
These t-shirts are the same design as a couple of the hoodies to match. They're very simple which is what most people want.

Poster Review
For our coursework we will also be creating a poster to promote our album, so we are using another poster to analyse and compare our product with.
The poster above is for Metallica's 2003 effort 'St. Anger'.
I'm a fan of the minimal design used on this poster, with it solely comprising of the band's logo, album artwork, title, date and tagline. There are no images of the band, which isn't necessarily needed here as Metallica are very well known and the logo is also easily identifiable.
However, this is in contrast to our own band Fall Line. While we plan on using a similar minimal style with just the logo, album title and release date, we are obviously unfamiliar so will be using a picture of the band as opposed to an album cover so it can stand out more and familiarise our target audience with the band and their style.

Risk Assessment
Causes of Risk:
Wires and Equipment
Camera
Wet Surface
Instruments
General Risks
Wires and equipment would be a risk as you may trip over them and cause yourself harm or damage the equipment. To prevent this we could tape down wires or move them to one side. Also general awareness whilst filming would be helpful.
The camera can cause some risk as it would be easy to drop. The risk of harm here is for the camera rather than personnel. Cameras can be fragile making them easy to break. To prevent this while filming the cameraman will have to wear the hand strap from the camera at all times.
Wet surface and floor is an obvious hazard. wet floors can cause people to slip. Also it is a risk for the wires that may be running nearby too. If you are holding a camera and slip it is a risk to the equipment as well. To prepare for and prevent this we should check the immediate area of filming for wet surface before getting into shooting. Also if a wet surface is found whilst filming we should let everyone know and perhaps move to a different location.
Some instruments are heavy making them difficult to carry to location. This is a risk as it could cause trips and falls. Another risk with the instruments would be having them in bad weather causing damage to the instruments. To prevent this we might only film with instruments indoors or on clear days. We shall also wear the instruments straps to prevent dropping them,

Twitter review
Band - Linkin Park
Introduction - As we have created our own Twitter account for our band, we need to also look at the ones other bands have for further planning and ideas on how to use it.
Purpose - Our Twitter account will be used to keep our followers informed on our progress, as well as joining in conversation and airing our own views regarding music and music videos. We will aim it at our target audience of people around the same age group with similar tastes in music, and hope it appeals to them. For comparisons we will use the Twitter account of the band whose song we are using.
Design - At time of writing the main design behind the Linkin Park account is promoting their performance on public television in February at a charity event, with both their header and background picture of this. They haven't released a single or studio album in a while so I imagine this is why this isn't the focal point of promotion on this Twitter, like how on our blog our finished poster will be the background picture and maybe a picture of our 'band' for the header.
Content - The content of Linkin Park's website is a wide range of things, including posting pictures from both past (for the more senior Linkin Park fans and nostalgia) and present, promoting signings and upcoming shows, releases such as singles and their upcoming charity show. We will follow a similar style, posting pictures from our shoots and promoting our fictional upcoming album but also interacting with other people who speak to us on Twitter which is something Linkin Park don't do.
